Second Go At Stop Motion

I had another go at using stop motion, this time i wanted to try and use the human form instead of toys  and i am really pleased with the results, it has helped me get my head around the idea of creating animation, i intend to experiment more with this style of animation and possibly use it for my final piece.

Rayograms

I think that these are such a clever idea and create such amazing effects, a great experiment to do, however not the desired look i was going for in my final animation.

I-pod and headphones

Car keys

This is the letraset on tracing paper which i used to create on of my rayograms.

A Few Quick Storyboard Ideas

I had a few ideas of what i could do as a final storyboard so i drew them out roughly before i forgot them all!

This idea was based around a more comical effect. A salt and pepper pot sat in a kitchen banging on pots and pans as if they are drums. I then came up with the idea of making them into a band and their name come across the screen introducing them. I'm not too sure if it would be easy to achieve or not as i'm not an expert in animation.

My next idea is to use the idea of the internet as i think my music sounds like an internet dial up connection. So i then though that you could follow the lines and wires that the power is moving along as the animation.

Like the internet connection i thought you could follow a phone and the places it has to go to reach a satellite, changing the background throughout the animation.

This was my favourite idea however i'm not too sure how to go about creating it. It using the theme of metal starting off with a tap dripping then the drips go down the plug hole but then they change into nails/screws going down the metal pipes, which then transform into springs however after that point i wasn't sure where to take it.

Research

I thought i'd look into television adverts, mainly the e4 animations.

Stop Motion Workshop

I’m not that familiar with animation so I wasn’t too sure what to expect from the stop motion workshop.

When getting there I was quite excited because I found out we were going to complete our own short stop motion and be able to play around with the equipment in the room.

My group had a weird bug kind of creature to play around with. The outcome wasn't as expected due to the camera acting up but i really enjoyed this type of work. If I’m able to I would like to create another one.

Motomichi Nakamura

Motomichi Nakamura was born in Tokyo, Japan and graduated from Parsons School of Design, New York. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn. With a minimum use of color (black, white and red) as well as a focus on the creation of characters and creatures using simple graphic elements characterizes Motomichi’s work across digital and traditional media. The subjects in his work often reflect a conflictive nature, being part human and part monsters.

I really like his style of animation and thought it would be good to use for one of my ideas / storyboards however i'm not too sure if it would be difficult to create.

Here's a few examples of his work...
