Evaluation

Overall i am quite happy with the final 26 second animation. However there are still a few things which i wish/could have done differently, such as spend a little more time with a steady hand to make the curves for the puddles a little smoother. But since this was my first ever time creating an animation i am pleased with my result!

Thanks to this project i have learnt a valuable new skill and found several programs i never knew existed, one of my favourites is 'i can animate' which is why i chose to use it for my final animation. I am still far from being an expert in this field but am much more aware of the different things out there to use.

Programs used:
I Can Animate
Adobe After Effects

Final Animation

Adding Audio

This is a screen shot of the setup of adding the audio to my animation.

Animation Without Audio

I am quite pleased with it so far, i made the shots quite jittery so that it would go with the music ( which you will see once i have added it to it). One thing that i think could be made better is the puddle to be made less jaggered with smoother curves, but overall quite pleased.

Flowers

I'm not very impressed with this, i don't think it looks very good so i don't intend to use this in my final animation.

Puddle Colour

So here i have added rings of different colours into the puddle which incorporates the multi coloured drips coming from the tap.

I think really that i preferred it when it was just one single colour which means that i will have to just have blue drips as it wouldn't make sense to have multi coloured drips with a blue puddle.

Changing Colour

I looked into changing the colour of the water/drips i have drawn onto my animation to see what it looked like and to try and improve it.

I really like the changes of colour so i think i'll go on to  try and change some of the puddles colouring aswell.

Food Dye in Water

This is looking at ways of changing the colour of water, using food dye's which create some beautiful shapes and forms, how the colours mix and blend together.

Images Once Edited

Here some of the previous once i have drawn the water/drip/ puddles etc onto them. In total there is 156 photographs which creates a 26 second animation.

Photos For My Animation

Here i have taken a few screen shots at different points from the photos i have taken for my animation in i can animate, these are before i have drawn the drips onto them.

This photo will once edited have a large puddle on the floor, and will be in the middle of the sequence.

This view is the first photo in the sequence, i like how it has caught the sun in the top right hand corner.

Dripping Taps

I decided to look at different styles of taps, mostly outdoors which will help with research towards my animation.

Camera Angles

The term camera angle means slightly different things to different people but it always refers to the way a shot is composed.

Eye-Level

This is the most common view, being the real-world angle that we are all used to. It shows subjects as we would expect to see them in real life. It is a fairly neutral shot.

High Angle

A high angle shows the subject from above, i.e. the camera is angled down towards the subject. This has the effect of diminishing the subject, making them appear less powerful, less significant or even submissive.

Low Angle

This shows the subject from below, giving them the impression of being more powerful or dominant.

Bird's Eye

The scene is shown from directly above. This is a completely different and somewhat unnatural point of view which can be used for dramatic effect or for showing a different spatial perspective.
In drama it can be used to show the positions and motions of different characters and objects, enabling the viewer to see things the characters can't.

Slanted

This is where the camera is purposely tilted to one side so the horizon is on an angle. This creates an interesting and dramatic effect.

Another Idea

My next thought was instead of having typically predictable 'blue' water i could have it all different colours, like the rainbow.

I thought each drip could be a different colour and then the puddle forms different rings of colour which build up like a rainbow.

Water/Drips/Puddles

So once i had decided on my storyboard i started looking at water and its forms.

This was looking at different things that i could have popping up out of the puddle. My favourite was the flowers which grow, i thought it fitted in well as it would be based in a garden. However the idea of a robot coming out of the puddle would fit with the music.

Final Final Storyboard

Okay so i had a change of mind and decided to use an outside tap rather than an inside tap and sink, i think it will work better with the camera angles etc.

Experiment

One experiment i carried out was using OHP sheets. I drew each section of  an animation on several sheets and then layered them up to see what look it would achieve.

This achieve a very messy finish and wouldn't be suitable for what i need to do in this project.

Tin Man...

The idea behind this was to have a tin man who needed oil and as he walks he creaks and clangs then reaches for the oil on a shelf and the shelf falls down. By using the idea in the first image i could easily move his arms and legs which creates the illusion of him walking.
